		<title>Yosemite to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Park - A Two Day Journey</title>

		<description><![CDATA[<p> Let&#8217;s assume that you are starting from the Hotel Charlotte in Groveland just west of Yosemite on Highway 120 because that is where we started from to give you driving instructions. We did this as a two night trip and were in no rush, so there was quite a bit of lingering at interesting cross-roads. Day one was spent exploring southern Yosemite and some of the smaller stops between YNP and Fresno. The next day we did a power drive through the two parks.</p><br />
<p> We start the first stretch of road on Highway 120 into Yosemite but skip the Valley this time around and head directly to the south part of the park.near the entrance at Highway 41 (go through Yosemite Valley not around the park), this is a wee bit more than two hours from Groveland. Spend time exploring the Wawona Hotel and Mariposa Grove of giant redwoods. Make a stop at the Pioneer History Center &#038; Covered Bridge where the docents are often in period costume and relate stories of earlier travelers. The Mariposa Grove of Redwood trees is just off the park exit where you can catch a narrated one hour tram tour. The Wawona is <div class='pi_style'><a href='http://curves.HotFitnessGuide.com/index.php/1/how-to-cure-a-golf-hook/'>  How to Cure a Golf Hook </a><br/>...to play your shot. Then, just before your backswing, turn your hands slightly counter-clockwise. What this will do is to ...</div>a charming old hotel in a very pretty location. Perhaps have lunch here; they have a spacious dining room where most seats seem to be window seats, good menu selections and nice beverage pairings at a fair price.</p><br />

<p> Leaving Yosemite continue south on 41 and you will quickly find yourself in an outpost called Fish Camp, really cute and reminds me of Groveland, a one road town just a few blocks in length.</p><br />
<p> Continue south to the town of Coarse Gold. Here is the Chukchansi Casino and Resort with big name entertainment. This is no rinky-dink operation! Our only disappointment was the way the slot machines pay out. We like to hear the coins drop, scoop them up and sashay out with big grins as if we had actually won! The machines we came across, none of which took our quarters to begin play, each paid out in a paper chit which we could take to another machine or to the cashier, not nearly as exciting as a scoop &#038; sashay exit!</p><br />
<p> South again on 41 to 99 at Fresno, to 99 to Visalia. We chose to overshoot the Sequoia/Kings Canyon and enter from the south. Read more about adjustable ...</div>East to the small community of Lemon Cove(a don&#8217;t blink or you will miss it town) where we recommend the Plantation Bed &#038; Breakfast. Door-to-door, Groveland to Lemon Cove total drive time was 4 hours and 20 minutes. We stayed in the Mammy room at $159 a night in this Gone with the Wind themed B&#038;B. The room was nicely sized with a king bed, big closet, rocking chair, small bath and shower, TV/VCR combination and a working fireplace. Be sure to take advantage of the swimming pool, hot tub and groomed lawn with hammock gardens. Gourmet breakfasts were beautifully prepared and delicious too! <p> From Lemon Cove, through Three Rivers it is only 16 miles to the park. On our first day we &#8220;discovered&#8221; Bullene Vineyards, and bought our wine for both evenings as we enjoyed the hot tub before retiring for the evening. Restaurants in Three Rivers are not grand. The Gateway, a hop-skip from the park entrance had a menu with some nice selections and a scenic location, though the prices were a bit steep.</p><br />

By ...</div>made for the movies and a small foreign car. Visitors will be awed by the breathtaking views, severe drops, sharp curves and dramatic scenery as the road climbs from 500 feet above sea level in Lemon Cove to almost 7,000 feet at the pinnacle.</p><br />
<p> The Sherman Tree is the highlight of park, but the area was under construction during our visit as they built a new parking lot to protect the tree roots. No doubt this construction is now complete. Shortly after the Sherman Tree is another pullover with a big walk-in tree that was damaged in a long-ago fire. The museum, just down the road a bit more,  is loaded with interesting tidbits about these trees, what makes them grow so tall, age, affects of fire and man&#8230;.</p><br />
<p> Leaving the area of the tall trees we took the remote and unpopulated Ten Mile Road to Hume Lake where we came across Hume Lake Christian Camp, a bustling lake front resort community located at the base of the lake with all the water and outdoor activities one could think of.</p><br />
<p> Continuing on it is important to note the confusion of signage, there are two parts to Kings Canyon National <div class='pi_style'><a href='http://curves.HotFitnessGuide.com/index.php/4/how-bicycling-can-help-you-to-achieve-a-stunning-physique/'>  How Bicycling Can Help You To Achieve A Stunning Physique! </a><br/>...a go. You can sign up ...</div>Park, a small bit to the west adjoining Sequoia National Park, and the main canyon that leads to Cedar Lodge. The main canyon route is like a little Yosemite though far more narrow and with less traffic. Along the way one first comes across the Kings Canyon Lodge, a lonely outpost with cabins, an antique gas station and a restaurant. We had timed this for a late lunch stop. Upon arrival it was just vacant, no sign of open or closed, just mysteriously quiet. After a few minutes of looking and knocking we continued up the canyon, glad that we had not timed this stop to fill our gas tank! This section of the Kings river is famous for fishing, picnicking and its rare remoteness. There is a cavern to explore along the way and at the end a campgrounds, small hotel and gift shop. The road into the canyon is fantastically dramatic with sheer drops, dizzying curves and open vista views and well worth every heart stopping moment!  Unfortunately, this is also where the camera ran out of charge!</p><br />

<p> This route is very beautiful, but driving intensive and we suggest that you do one day in Kings Canyon and a second exploring Sequoia. We would have enjoyed more time in each! <p> Well, instead of directly answering my question, the doctor went into a speech about how most people exercise entirely the wrong way, using the wrong weights and never getting the results they want. Snoozing&#8230; Finally, after hearing about fitness bloopers, we got to the kernel of why most women have issues with cellulite-they focus <div class='pi_style'><a href='http://curves.HotFitnessGuide.com/index.php/103/vacationing-in-miami-beach-fl/'>  Vacationing in Miami Beach FL </a><br/>...with the rich and famous, it is difficult to know in advance which clubs are popular at any given time. ...</div>on the wrong muscles. Ha! Thank goodness for fitness breakthroughs.</p><br />
<p> As the doc sees it, in the gym, women focus too much on working the front leg muscles while neglecting the cellulite burning hind muscles. The thighs of most women are relatively large anyway because we use them to walk and kick car doors shut when our hands are full of shopping bags. The thigh also gets a workout during forward moving exercises like bike peddling and running to get to work on time.</p><br />
<p> But if you want to rouse your backside into elite cellulite fighting mode, you need to focus on building the muscles on the back of your leg called the hamstrings, and your buttocks muscles too.</p><br />
<p> Here are three exercises that will help you do just that:</p><br />
<p> 1. Hamstring curl</p><br />
<p> The hamstring curl plumps up your hamstrings to add more sexy curves to your profile.</p><br />
<p> Most gyms have either standing or lying hamstring machines. (While generic hamstring curl guidelines follow, use he manufacturer&#8217;s instructions for your gym&#8217;s machine.)</p><br />

<p> To do the door squat, open a door to a 45 degree angle from the wall. Now stand, with your legs shoulder width apart, about six inches away from the edge of the door facing the door&#8217;s side and both doorknobs. Next, grab a door knob with each of your hands.</p><br />
<p> Now, to start this cellulite burning motion, bend your knees and lower your legs until your hamstrings are parallel with the floor. Pause and squeeze your hamstrings and buttocks. Now raise yourself upward again by squeezing your hamstrings and butt muscles. Repeat the door squat 15-20 times. A highly conditioned base of support will provide stability throughout the swing and allow forces to be effectively transferred from the legs through the hips to the upper body to produce optimal power and control. Unfortunately, there are a number of factors that predispose the golfer to developing poor postural patterns and muscle imbalance that result in a weak base of support.</p><br />

<p> For much of our young lives we were stuck sitting in school hunched over our desk. We finish school and begin our careers.  Many of us now find ourselves spending excessive time in our cars or sitting in poorly designed chairs hunched in front of a computer.  Over time we are conditioned to have tight hip flexors and a lazy posture.  Poor posture and muscle imbalance decrease musculoskeletal efficiency and disrupt communication within the neuromuscular system. Simply stated,  when one muscle becomes tight and overactive its opposing muscle becomes loose and lazy.   Tight dominant hip flexors create weak and lazy hip extensors (gluteals)and set off a chain reaction of dysfunction.</p><br />
<p> Tight hip flexors pull the pelvis into a forward tilt leading to an excess curvature of the lumbar spine.  As a result the muscles of the abdominal wall lengthen and weaken while the muscles of the lumbar spine get short and tight.  This pattern also causes disruption in our body s lateral stabilization system.   The hip abductors (muscles that move the legs away from the center of the body) along with their opposing adductors (muscles that move the legs toward the center of the body) work to stabilize the pelvis during lateral movement.  Inefficiency in this lateral stabilization system inhibits coordination and hinders proper weight shift through the golf swing. To make matters worse most golfers spending hours at the driving range reinforcing and strengthening this dysfunctional pattern.  Is it any wonder the average golf score hasn t dropped in decades?</p><br />
<p> To break this pattern of dysfunction and build a strong base of support we must first establish coordinated muscle firing among the deep stabilizing abdominal musculature, the hip flexors and extensors, hip abductors and adductors, and spinal flexors, extensors and rotators.  This is accomplished through the activation and strengthening of weak and inhibited muscles, and stretching the tight and dominant muscles.  Once these muscles are re-educated and coordinated muscle firing is established we can then work to build optimal strength and power.</p><br />
<p> The first step in this process is the development of the deep abdominal and pelvic musculature.  This is done by mastering the abdominal brace. Research has shown that drawing in actually lessens abdominal activation and decreases lumbar - pelvic- hip stability.  The abdominal brace is an isometric contraction of the abdominal muscles meaning the abs are neither pulled in nor pushed out.  This maneuver should be the first step of every exercise as it is the foundation of lumbar, pelvic, and hip stabilization.   The following exercise will allow you to master this movement and re-educate the lower abdominal wall and allow the deep pelvic stabilizers to fire efficiently.</p><br />
<p> Abdominal Brace</p><br />
<p>   Lay in a supine position (on your back) with knees bent and feet flat on the floor.</p><br />
<p>   Brace your abdominals by tightening abdominals as if you were going to take a punch in the gut.</p><br />

<p> A study presented by researchers at the American College of Sports Medicine s 51st annual meeting showed that golfers who possess strong hip muscles have lower handicaps and longer driving distances than those with weak hip muscles. This makes sense since muscles of the hip and pelvis play a major role in stabilizing the trunk and transferring forces from the lower body through the upper body and arms during the golf swing.   The ability of the hip extensors (gluteals and hamstrings) and lumbar extensors to fire in concert also allows the body to react to and counteract the rapid rotational forces of the golf swing. Spinal extensor muscles don t have the size or strength to do this, hence the tremendous incidence of over use injury and lower back pain among golfers.  So, what we need to do is quite down our lumbar extensors to allow the hip extensors to do their job.</p><br />
<p> The Bird Dog exercise progression effectively helps develop stabilization, coordination and strength of the spine.  The key to this type of exercise is learning and then maintaining  neutral  spine.  Neutral does not mean straight, it means allowing the natural curves to be present.  This is imperative to allow the spine to function properly and movement to occur in a stress free manner.  The golf club placed the length of the spine is an excellent cue that allows the golfer to feel the proper spinal positions and make necessary corrections. <p>   Position yourelf on your hands and knees with a golf club placed along your spine; make sure the rod contacts 3 points only (head-middle back-pelvis).</p><br />
<p>   Brace your abdominals and slowly raise one hand and the opposite knee just off the floor ( no more than 1/4 inch).  Hold for five to ten seconds.</p><br />
<p>   Return to the start position and alternate sides.</p><br />
<p> Tips</p><br />
<p>    The club must remain in contact with all 3 contact points (head, mid back, pelvis).</p><br />
<p> Once you have mastered the Dog 1 then you can move to the next progression. Dog 2 adds the components of hip extension and shoulder flexion.  This exercise is extremely effective in re-establishing efficiency in extensor chain (hip, lumbar, and cervical extensors).</p><br />

<p> Stand two-feet away from a wall. Now place your hands together and form a triangle by touching the thumbs and pointer fingers of your hands. Next lower your hands so that they are directly in front of your breasts.</p><br />

<p> Extend your hands in front of you until they touch the wall. Now lean forward on your toes until your forehead touches the wall.
